Four Rockies Players Land on MLB's Top 100 List

Good news for the impending Colorado Rockies season: we just had FOUR players from the Colorado Rockies roster that landed on the MLB.com Top 100 Prospects list.

#22: Nolan Arenado is rated the best third base prospect in the league. We chose him as a second round pick in 2009, and he continued to show serious power improvements in 2011.

#24: Drew Pomeranz was rated the fifth-best left pitcher prospect in the league. We nabbed this one in 2011 in a trade with the Cleveland Indians for Ubaldo Jimenez. As a first round pick, this kid could be a number 2 starter sometime this season.

#63: Wilin Rosario was rated the fifth-best catching prospect in the league. It's undeniable that this kind has a huge amount of straight power, but also needs to develop a stronger grasp of the strike zone. He still needs to make some progress, but I could see him getting called up for a couple of games towards the end of the season.

#66: Chad Bettis has a strong, high-quality pitch with his fastball and slider, but is also somewhat inconsistent and needs a stronger change up. If he could really harness those key skills in the first half of the season, he could get called up later this season.

Marco Scutaro Now Part of Colorado Rockies Roster

Traded from the Boston Red Sox, we have officially acquired shortstop Marco Scutaro to the Colorado Rockies roster! He's also had stints with the New York Mets, the Oakland Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays. Scutaro has a batting average of .270. He was traded for Clayton Mortensen. Originally from Venezuela, Scutaro spent seven seasons in theminor leagues before landing a starting position in 2004. He set career highs last year with the Red Sox, inclujding 150 games, 632 at-bats, 100 runs, 14 stolen bases and 90 walks.

So what does all this mean for the Colorado Rockies?

Well: over the past three years, Scutaro has consistently set new career records. Meaning that if the trend holds, he will have even better play this season as part of the Rockies roster. Just another reason to be pumped up for the 2012 Rockies Season!

Rockies Off Season Moves. And Opening Day.

Things about the Colorado Rockies that I am excited about today:
  • Seth Smith has been re-signed to the Colorado Rockies. In a one year, $2.4 million deal. While that's some serious dough, he's an asset that we definitely need to keep around to stay viable for the playoffs. ROCKTEMBER BABY!
  • Rockies Fest 2012 is this weekend. I've got my list, checked it twice. I'm headed to the autographs table, folks.
  • Opening day is April 9th - did you buy Rockies tickets for this game yet? I sure did. Missing out on the first day of the season would be a serious bummer. And if you seriously don't want to go, at least head out to a tailgate or host a bbq to watch the game. Fan support is what this team needs!

Rockies Fest 2012

Well guys, it's January, which means we're finally to 2012. And just one step closer to the start of the Colorado Rockies 2012 season! I'm so excited that I might just pee my pants. Seriously. Well, not really. But I do lurve me some Colorado Rockies. Anyway: coming up this month is the annual Rockies Fest at Coors Field. This year, it's TWO days: January 21st and 22nd. Check out the schedule on the Rockies site: 2012 Rockies Fest. I'm making my plan of attack right now: between the autographs that I want to get, the Family Feud games and the Q&As, I'm thinking that this will be the best Rockies Fest I've been to yet. See you guys there!
